The Grove
By Peter Barton
In 1994 my company PCB Construction Ltd purchased land from Richard and Helen Miller of Grove Farm, the land was in fact their farm yard. We decided to call the road simply The Grove, though by local tradition this was the name given to the lane that leads to Cakebread Cottage and the other houses to the rear of Town Green Road.
Having bought the farm yard we first renovated a derelect barn on the site. This was a Grade 2 listed building dating back to the 17th century, which with agreement with
The yard at Grove Farm before development by PCB Construction
the local listed building officer we extended to make a very nice three bedroomed cottage, now named Stacie's Barn. The name was chosen because a building called
Stacie's House is shown on the 1686 Chicheley estate map of Orwell, and Stacie's Barn could well be that house.
The next part of The Grove was the development of nine 4 bedroomed detached houses built between 1995 and 1997.
