contribution to the founding of the new Petersfield School

The former Rector had ministered here from 1954 to 1969 and he will be remembered not only for his contribution to the founding of the new Petersfield School in the early 1960s, for his support and ecumenical initiative concerning the Covenant Scheme which so nearly brought together church and chapel in a national move towards church unity, and also for his grasp of, and interest in, local history. His widow Muriel, family, friends and former parishioners attended a second funeral service on February 12th 1985 after which he was buried with Ivy his first wife, in the churchyard deep with snow.
