Held in Chapel Orchard, our "green space"

The following is an extract from an article which appeared in the September 2009 Orwell Bulletin.

Orfest 2009 was staged in Chapel Orchard on August 29th by the Grant/Fewster team, and it is hard to find words to convey adequately the wonderful atmosphere created in our 'green space' that evening. 'Magical' and 'Perfect' were frequently used by members of the audience as they enjoyed their picnic food under the tree canopy, lit with fairy lights, while listening to blues, rock, folk, and jazz bands from Cambridge, Brighton and Bishops Stortford, plus examples of Orwell talent including guitar players John Beesley, George Heritage, Iona and Charlie Oughton, Stephan Taylor, Darren Graver, and young singer, Vanessa Belbin.

Orfest's sponsors (listed separately below), provided, free of charge, a professionally built stage, bar, cocktail bar, and screens on which one could follow the performances while eating and drinking in areas away from the stage. Cam Valley Orchards brought apples and juice to sell, Carlo's ice cream kiosk kept many children happy and Cambridge University Fire Troop gave two stunning performances of fire juggling.

Special thanks should go to Mark Wilsher (Set Up Scenery) and his stage-building team, to Alex Parmee (Absolute AVS) and his sound team, and to the team who assembled 300 picnic suppers, but above all – thank you to Phil, Jamie and the two Emmas, for a brilliantly conceived and executed evening of entertainment for our community.

Sponsors and Supporters included: Set Up Scenery, Absolute AVS, Lithmark Ltd, Concept Copy Design, Big Day, Magic, Supreme Being, Mantles, Volac, Cambridge Building Society, Potton Brewery.
