Auction, notice date April 22 1814

From the Orwell Bulletin of March 1984

The following article appeared in the Orwell Bulletin of March 1984, (under the heading "From the Files. 170 years ago.") concerning an auction which was around 200 years ago!  We have yet to work out which Orwell farm was involved.

"COWS  HORSES  SHEEP  CORN  HAY THRASHING MACHINE & EFFECTS        ORWELL CAMBRIDGESHIRE

to be sold by Auction by THOMAS COCKETT on Mr Moses Gabbitus' Farm at Orwell on Tuesday 3rd May at 11 o'clock:

3 handsome heifers with calves by their sides, 4 ditto and 2 young cows calving; 8 3 year old Cart colts, 2 useful Cart mares, a 4 year old Nag Horse, runs well in harness; a handsome Black Hackney four years old; a 3 year old Blood Filly; a Mow of Wheat in the straw about 60 loads; a Stack of Clover and Meadow hay; a Four horse Power Threshing Machine, Carts, Ploughs, Implements, Harness, a Capital month Clock and other effects.

Credit will be given to Michaelmas on approved security.

Catalogues to be had at the inns in the neighbourhood, at the place of sale and of Thomas Cockett at Royston, Herts."
