Setting up the Millennium Beacon on Toot Hill

Orwell erected its beacon on Toot Hill, above the Clunch Pits. The beacon was part of a string of beacons established across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The Beacon was donated by Marshall's Aerospace and is the property of South Cambs District Council.

On 31st December 1999, to the sound of a trumpet fanfare on Tower Bridge, the Queen lit the National Millennium Beacon triggering the lighting of the beacons across the UK, including the South Cambs. Beacon in Orwell.
