The Carpenter's shop
By Claire Neville
As a small child my favourite place to visit was Drew Bullen’s tumbledown workshop next to the Methodist Chapel. The site is now the back garden of Town Green Road.
Painting done in 1942 by Matthew Prater of Bullen's carpenter's workshop
Mr Bullen made coffins and was also a wheelwright and general carpenter, and his workshop was propped up with numerous poles. I loved the glorious smell of wood there and the long, curly shavings which I would beg handfuls of to tangle in my hair like long curls.
