Will of Richard Boston 1508
This is the oldest of the Orwell Wills to be found in The National Archives. 1508 - that's the year before Henry VIII came to the throne!
The name does not seem to have survived in Orwell, so we cannot tell where Richard lived or what he did.
The handwriting in the Will is surprisingly 'modern,' and the routine phrases at the beginning of the Will can be read without difficulty, but later in the Will a lot of abbreviations are used so that the meaning is not at all clear.
We are working on it. Or better still -can anyone help?
