Orwell Grange - some memories
From 1965
By Jeannette Owen
I lived at Orwell Grange, on Cambridge Road, New Wimpole, from 1965 to 1971, when my mother ran a finishing and secretarial school there, as well as courses for the British Horse Society Assistant Instructor exams. The brick lined basement was all that was then visible of the former brewery/iron works; I called it "the pit paddock". We had heard of the brewery history, but not of the ironworks.
One noteworthy mention is of the beautiful drawing of racehorses on the wall on the "coach house ," the lovely dovecote in the field. I would ride all over the scenic Cambridgeshire land on my ponies. What memories that house holds for me ! I drove my first pony to Arrington.
There is a page on this website giving the earlier history of The Grange here.
