The Millennium Reminder.....
What a day! What memories!
The Street Party was arranged for Sunday 25th June 2000 (the day after midsummer day!) and was held on Town Green Road from around 3.00pm.
Attractions, other than the crowds of Orwellians, included a parade and judging of children's fancy dress and adults' novelty hat competitions, both with the theme of TIME.
Entertainments from about 3.30pm ranged from a Country & Western Band, an Irish Jig Band, a Magic Show, clowns and a juggler. Children enjoyed the bouncy castles, Punch & Judy, to balloon modelling and face painting.
Tea was provided, but (in true Orwell tradition) participants were requested to bring their own picnic tables and chairs. The shop and The Chequers remained open all afternoon to provide those forgotten little extras ....
Once again, the weather was kind, with lots of summer sunshine.
Let's get the show started...
Anyone seen where I go for the fancy dress?
