ORWELL SUMMER FESTIVAL - AUGUST 27th 2016
Music, magic, story-telling, rural crafts, cocktails and much more in Chapel Orchard
Orwell Show Committee, aided by local magician JezO and his company, gave the village a splendid day of entertainment in the idyllic setting of Chapel Orchard on August Bank Holiday weekend. We had no need to join traffic jammed motorists in search of attractions; we could watch Simon Damant at his portable forge, beating hell out of red hot steel, alongside a woodworker shaping components from green ash for elm bark-topped stools. There were games and a bouncy castle for the young and a story-telling session with Orwell authoress Maria (Ute) Sproulle. On stage in the picnic area was JezO himself, followed by solo saxophonist Richard Sproulle, local band Tricky Vicky and singer/songwriter Michael King. And to keep us fed and watered there were burgers, pizzas, pies, home-made icecream, a well-stocked bar and a scrumptious cake stall provided by the Women of Orwell (WI).
Thankyou Orwell Show Committee ! We look forward to a repeat next year, or even sooner.
