Orwell Singers
Our last Christlas concert
Our stated aim is ‘t
o provide an enjoyable opportunity for people to sing a wide repertoire of music, both secular and non-secular’.
Our conductor Calum & Naomi Marris, clarinet
Due to the current Covid19 restrictions we held virtual meetings during our Spring term 2021, using Zoom, but we did manage to hold an informal concert on the Methodist Church lawn in July. Instrumental numbers and poetry readings stretched the programme a little and we picnicked afterwards.
We are a very friendly group and normally we meet on Monday evenings in the Methodist Schoolroom in Orwell during school term times. At present (autumn 2021) we are meeting at 7.45pm on Monday evenings in Barrington Village Hall where there is more space for social distancing. (Sadly our own village hall is fully booked !).
Our members come not only from Orwell and other surrounding villages but also from Cambridge and Royston. At the moment the choir consists of 11 sopranos, 10 altos, 4 basses and 7 tenors. You do not need to be able to read music (as long as you can sing!) and we do not audition new members.
We put on a Christmas Concert in December and a Summer Concert in late June. These include a wide range of music of various styles, a bit of audience participation, fun items and songs from the shows. The venues and dates for these concerts will be announced here soon.
